Finding a New Routine

Many people have routines that they follow to get ready for work in the morning. They eat breakfast, shower, and get dressed in their work clothes. But what happens when you work from home? Do you shower and get dressed or do you stay in your pajamas all day?

I am working on getting in a new routine. After getting the boys on the bus, I have been trying to take a long walk before showering, cleaning up the house, and then sitting down to write before I have to go to work at the veterinary hospital.

Then, it started raining so the walks were out. I did some other exercises. The past week, I have been fighting a cold and have been tired so I haven’t exercised right away. Instead, I have done some writing first and then exercised and showered.

I am not sure if there is much difference. I like getting my exercising out of the way so I may try to walk the rest of the week, as long as the weather holds, though I am also picking up more hours at the vet’s office so I may be rushing to get to work most mornings. I also like the feeling of a shower. I just feel much better so maybe I should make that a priority too!

But there is always next week! The important thing is that I need to find what works and keep doing it.

Last week, I was a writing machine. Every morning before I went to work, I made sure that I wrote and wrote and wrote some more. I had one customer who wanted to buy fifteen posts by Friday so I made sure that I sat down and got most of them done. I am always motivated by customers who pay quickly.

The important thing is to find a routine and stick to it! Maybe in another month or so, I will be able to tell you what is working for me. What works for you?

Finding Motivation to Write

I have been fighting a cold. I am putting in more hours at the veterinary clinic to help and I am just exhausted. However, blogs still need to be written and things need to get done around the house. So, how can I get myself to actually do them? Here are some tips to help with motivation (especially when it comes to writing).

Set goals. When people set goals, they will actually work harder in order to go above and beyond simply meeting the goals. What is your minimum that you need to do? Just write two blogs today. You can write more tomorrow.

Make lists. It helps to have a list of things to do (or topics to write on). It helps to motivate you because you know what you need to get done.

Do research. If you can’t actually write anything, make a list of topics and do your research. Not only will you have something written, it may help you get motivated to start (or just let you know where to start tomorrow).

Walk away. Trying to sit and write when your mind is blank will get you nowhere but several hours of wasted time and no words. Take a walk, play with your dog, or simply read for a few minutes until motivation hits.

I think for now, I am going to walk away and exercise. Then, I might shower. I will probably feel better after that and hopefully, I will be able to write, write, and write some more!

Getting Back in Gear

Now that the boys are in school, it is time to get my writing back in gear. I haven’t had a very productive summer, though now that we had to buy another vehicle, it is more important than ever that I get writing!

Are you having a lull in your business or life in general? Here are some tips to help you get back into the groove.

Find a new routine. People who have routines tend to get more things done. They know how their day is going to go so they are more likely to stick to it!

Set aside time for your business (or other things that you need to do). If something is important to you, you need to make time for it. Find time every day (or most days) where you are going to work on it.

Know what needs to be done (and when). Though most people laugh when they think of to-do lists, people are more productive if they know what they have to do and when it is due.

Make goals. Many people get more things done when they have goals. Whether you know that you want to make a certain amount of money or write a certain amount of blogs (or even just clean a closet out), you will work hard to make sure that you get that done.

Take time for yourself. This is really important. You need to take care of yourself before you are able to take care of anyone else (or anything else).

The boys have been in school for a few weeks and I have a list of household things that I want to accomplish. I am not rushing through them. I have all winter to accomplish these things. I am also trying to exercise most days so that I feel better about myself. Plus, you will find me doing a little reading to relax in between projects.

Here is to a successful fall and winter!

Something New

I don’t know if you have heard but Jewelry in Candles merged with another company. In a way, this was quite helpful. I was quite behind on my quota so I would have had to buy more candles in order to keep going. I was a little upset though because I truly enjoyed the products and loved having several candles in my closet for last minute gifts.

I really enjoyed the jewelry too! I was never a jewelry girl but it felt nice to get dressed up a little bit. So, I started thinking of other ways to get involved.

I started making my own earrings (which I hope to make some to sell soon) plus I joined Paparazzi. Five-dollar accessories for people who can’t afford more expensive things. I can’t wait to get my kit and start showing it off!

Below are some pieces that I might be getting in. If you are interested, feel free to contact me or check out my Facebook page of pieces that I currently have for sale or you could check out my Paparazzi website too.

Onto New Things

Wow – life has a way of going too fast. What started as taking a month off from writing posts turned into several. I don’t know how I got so behind in my writing!

Summer just flew by. I barely did anything that I wanted to with the boys. Playdates with friends, time swimming in the pool, just staying home and playing. Now, the boys are in school already and I have no idea where the summer went.

One good thing about school is that I finally have time for myself. I started a long list of things that I will finally have time to do around the house. I can also get caught up on my blogging here, as well as focus on catching up on bills.

Here is to a full and productive first month of school (plus the boys’ first day of school picture)!

I hope that you are enjoying this month and have set some goals for yourself.

Available In Paperback – Freelance Writing

As I continue to publish some of my ebooks into paperbacks, I thought my next one should be about freelance writing.

I am very proud to be able to work from home and can’t believe that I can be paid to write. I think that everyone should be able to find something that they love to do and make money with it. That is a great feeling.
